Joan Deluhery-Wagemester, LISW

Joan Deluhery-Wagemester is a Licensed Independent Social Worker. She received her undergraduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation from University of Northern Iowa. She has worked inpatient and outpatient psychiatry from 1989 to 2018 and during this time received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Iowa. Joan has experience working with adults and adolescents in a variety of clinical settings. She has experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, suicidal tendencies, life adjustments & transitions, relational distress, blended families, and ADHD.

Joan has training in Cognitive Behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, family therapy, motivational interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Certified Grief Informed Professional Certification, and Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality. She uses a strength- based approach to find practical solutions that work for individuals and families.

Joan believes that change happens when individuals are given guidance. With the guidance, better choices can be made to have happier fulfilling lives. Empowerment is the belief that you have the ability to control the course of your life. Sometimes when life brings challenges and unwelcome stress, you may need a little extra support and clarity.

When Joan has free time, she enjoys reading, crafting, cooking, walking her dog, pickleball, biking, and traveling. She cheers on the University of Iowa Women’s basketball team. She is busy with many roles, wife, mom, sister, aunt, great aunt, daughter, dog mom, and business owner.
